2026 West Australian of the Year
The Motivation Foundation is proud to recognise an extraordinary achievement. We extend our sincere congratulations to our Founder and Chairperson, Dr Jim Giumelli, on being named the 2026 Western Australian of the Year, in addition to receiving the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA Business Award.
For those of us who work alongside Jim, this recognition comes as no surprise. For more than four decades, he has led with humility, integrity and an unwavering belief in people. Whether building Ertech into a thriving, employee owned business or creating life changing opportunities for young people through what is now the Motivation Foundation, Jim has always focused on something bigger than himself, helping others succeed.
Every day, we see the impact of that vision. We see it in the young people who find confidence, direction and purpose through our programs. We see it in the pathways created for those who may have otherwise been left behind. And we see it in the quiet, consistent way Jim continues to mentor, support and inspire. This award recognises an extraordinary career, but more importantly, it recognises a lifetime of giving back, of opening doors, and of investing in people and community.
We would also like to acknowledge the incredible cohort of nominees and category winners recognised last night. Western Australia is fortunate to be home to so many individuals making meaningful contributions across our state, and it is an honour to stand alongside you all.
Jim, thank you for your visionary leadership, your generosity, your belief in what is possible and your unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for others, we couldn’t do it without you. On behalf of the Board, staff and the Motivation Foundation community, congratulations on this well-deserved honour. We are so proud.
Opening of Motivation Education and Career School
Motivation Foundation is proud to announce the opening of Motivation Education and Career School (MECS), an independent secondary school dedicated to supporting young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education and are seeking a pathway into a trade or industry career.
More than a school, MECS is a community where young people rediscover confidence, build meaningful relationships and develop the knowledge, skills and resilience needed to succeed in employment and in life. MECS focuses on preparing students for successful futures by developing literacy and numeracy alongside confidence, resilience, communication, emotional regulation and workplace skills. In partnership with Motivation Civil and Mining Academy, student will also complete RII20720 Certificate II in Civil Construction, RII20120 Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation and other courses.
Students are also supported to develop the knowledge, confidence and personal capabilities needed to navigate everyday life, make informed decisions and become independent, contributing members of their communities. Through strong partnerships with industry, students have opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications, participate in workplace learning and build the practical skills employers value.
Together, we are creating more than a school, we are creating opportunities, changing futures and building a community where every young person has the chance to belong, grow and succeed.
